Old Charter Oak Chinkapin Oak bourbon continue the exploration of Buffalo Trace's exploration into oak tree varietals and contains Buffalo Trace Mash #1 that has been aged for nine years in Chinkapin barrels before being bottled at 93 proof. Oak staves made from Chinkapin Oak trees are air -dried for two year in comparison to the industry standard of 3 months. As the bourbon matures within, complex oak flavor is extracted from deep within the barrel and captured during barrel charring. The barrels are charred for slightly less time as wood sugars are caramelized and oak flavors unlocked. Described as a floral nose of cherries and spearmint, the palate is bountiful with flavors of fresh herbs, honey, and warming baking spice that ends with rich dark chocolate.Product Details
